Does it make me a sceptical dork to state now: I don’t want to go the VC route, I’m working on a Proof of concept on one of my ideas, will validate close rounds, work out an MVP if it gets enough good input and people willing to pay upfront and go bootstrapping until its riding or crashing.

Stories like these just make me realize how hard it is to get VC cash in. I’d rather be working on creating “value for users” than “proving value to VC’s”.

I guess this is another kind of league, VC’s being the Ferrari racing to the finish and Bootstrapping (self funding for the critics) is the Volvo being upgraded halfway down the track and securely driving to the finish…

Anyway, Henry Oakes, thanks for this honest writeup and sharing these kinds of things. It really makes the whole startup world more transparent and real for wantrepreneurs like me (for now… 😉)
