Equality Is Not A Matter For Technology
This is the moment where Black Lifes Matter has broken through the floor, demanding justice and equality for all women and men around the globe.
It is a moment where the injustice for people of color is being addressed.
But, apparently, it’s also the moment where technology is working on AI that predicts criminals using facial recognition.
And it scares me.
If you’ve ever watched the film Minority Report with Tom Cruise as a future cop, you’ll see the similarities with the SciFi movie in which people are being arrested before even doing anything wrong, based on what appear to be oracles that can see the nearby future.
It makes a great fictional story. I loved it. But in reality, assuming that software can predict something that people themselves can’t even do — let aside handle — properly in real life is not going to do Black Lives Matter — or any equality movement for that fact — any good.
