This is a very clarifying article to me, as an early adopter and developer, with an eye on AI development.
My prediction (partially fear): China opened up DeepSeek because they know that, like bees to honey, the Western world will consume it and use it, even their cloud version. It will suck up all the data it can, and in a while, when consumed enough, they close it once again to form a better model.
But I'm just a sceptic here. The disruption and learning advantages that companies like OpenAI get from DeepSeek are not to be overseen, and I hope this will save lots of energy (literally) and effort on other models to see a better way working forward on their AI development.
